Engineering administrator Intern

Engineering Administrator Intern

Location: Hatfield

Length of contract: Until September 2027

Salary: £24,792 (Pro rata)

Are you organised, curious and interested in learning what goes on behind the scenes to keep a busy engineering function running effectively?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Engineering Administration Intern to join our Utility Engineering team. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience within a professional engineering environment, supporting the systems, processes and documentation that help our engineers deliver safe, compliant and reliable operations.

Working alongside experienced engineering colleagues, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of activities, including:

  • Supporting work order administration and tracking using Maximo
  • Helping to coordinate contractor documentation and maintain permit records
  • Preparing, formatting and maintaining engineering reports and records
  • Supporting document control and the filing of important compliance documentation
  • Assisting with purchase orders and procurement administration
  • Supporting data change control activities
  • Providing support to the engineering service desk function
  • Helping the team identify opportunities to improve processes and ways of working

This is much more than a traditional administration role. You’ll get a valuable insight into how an engineering function operates, seeing how areas such as maintenance, compliance, contractors, procurement, data and document control come together to support the wider business.

Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to develop valuable skills in organisation, communication, attention to detail, problem-solving, systems and data management, teamwork and stakeholder management.

We’re looking for someone who is proactive, organised and keen to learn, with good attention to detail and the confidence to communicate with different people across the business.

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. What matters most is your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and readiness to get involved.
