The team
The Discovery unit at Hatfield Research Laboratories are responsible for validating drug targets and identifying new therapeutics to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.  The team work collaboratively with external partners such as University College London as well as other groups within Eisai to achieve these goals.
 
The role

The successful candidate will:
    · Be trained in a variety of in vitro laboratory techniques that are used across multiple, early Discovery-stage projects
    · Provide basic support to a team of scientists in the laboratory to achieve common goals.
    · Communicate scientific experiments and data amongst the wider members of the group and on occasion with other groups across the Eisai network.
    · Take a key role to ensure the laboratories in Hatfield are running smoothly and effectively.
    · Solve complex scientific and practical problems under supervision to keep projects moving forwards.
    · Interact with our external collaborators to ensure high quality data is generated to inform key decisions.
As part of the programme, the successful candidate will complete a 36 month Level 7 Research Scientist Apprenticeship with Kent University. The course will be remote with 1 intense week of training once a year at the university

Main Duties / Responsibilities

•    Contributes to generating experimental data with a direct, short-term impact on the job area or work team
•    Uses professional concepts and company’s policies and procedures to solve a variety of problems.
•    Provides laboratory support across multiple projects.
•    Ensures that responsibilities are completed on schedule following established procedures and timelines
•    Interprets and analyses data, presenting to supervisor and other internal parties.
•    Ensures that experimental work is written up in laboratory notebooks to a high standard in a timely manner and in accordance with company SOPs
 

Qualifications & education requirement

BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant biological science (e.g. pharmacology, pharmacy, biochemistry, cell biology) with basic laboratory skills in some of the following: biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, neuroscience or a related discipline.
